"Gala"
Dear all Adult dancers
Term 4 means “show time”. Our first annual end of year show at Melbourne Institute of Dance will be held on Saturday 16th December at Deepdene Uniting Church Stage.
Our Adults bring so much to our school and for the students who would like to perform; this will give them the opportunity and show what you achieved in your dance studies.
Our production is designed to give dancers of all levels valuable performance and production experience and will bring together dancers from the age of four to seventy-four in a celebration of dance and its ability to unite and bring joy.
Rehearsals are always conducted with the utmost professionalism but are also enjoyed for the social aspect, with many dancers enjoying regular post-rehearsal drinks and gatherings after rehearsals.
The 2017 show will be a ‘Gala’ style with short pieces that will entertain and delight.
Beginner and Advanced Adults will be dancing to an excerpt from the wonderful score 'Symphonie fantastique' written by the French composer Hector Berlioz in 1830
This piece of music is: An Episode in the Life of an Artist, in Five Parts.
Kalman will be using the 2nd movement of this score, to choreograph and create on the adult students, a romantic classical ballet.
Kalman will also be creating a contemporary adults work for intermediate to advanced students. This piece will be created in contemporary class time on Saturday mornings 10-11am during term 4 (but first rehearsal will start on Saturday 30th September.)
Rehearsals for the adult’s ballet piece will take place weekly during term 4, in two groups depending on the dancer's ability.
Beginners: Saturday 2:30-4pm
Advanced: Friday 7-9pm
If you are not sure which group you should be in please speak to Kalman at any time.
We would love, as many dancers to be apart of this and the choreography will cater to the needs and ability of each dancers level and ability.
We would like you to try and make all possible rehearsals.
Our compulsory rehearsals however are:
General rehearsals - Saturday 9th December 4-6pm
Dress rehearsal – Friday 15th December 6-9pm
Cost:
The all-inclusive production fee covers all your rehearsals throughout Term 4, artistic development and choreography, theatre hire, costume hire etc.
