Yuiko Masukawa

Yuiko started dancing at her hometown Osaka, Japan. She furthered her study in Canada at Goh Ballet School and competed at the Beijing International Ballet Competition.

She went on to study at Boston Ballet School and finished her studies in Australia at WAAPA, graduating in 2011.

 

Yuiko has worked with Opera Australia, Tasmania Ballet, Nottle Theatre in Korea and in numerous freelance dancing rolls, both created for her and her own choreography.

 

Yuiko joined Melbourne City Ballet as a Principal dancer. Dancing a full selection of both contemporary and classical roles. Some of her favourites were Juliet (Romeo and Juliet), Madame Butterfly (Madame butterfly), Aurora (Sleeping Beauty), Michaela (Carmen), Sugarplum and Clara (Nutcracker).

 

Yuiko is passionate about passing on her vast knowledge of dance to the next generation and has gained immense teaching and managerial experience. She was Artistic Director of Melbourne City Youth Ballet for 7 years, choreographing and staging numerous works each year. She continues to teach at many full-time dance schools both in Australia and Japan.

 

Yuiko loves to share her knowledge and passion for dance and we are so thrilled to have her part of the team at Melbourne Institute of Dance
